Disengagement

The first competitors in the Transat Ecover BtoB have finally escaped the doldrums. Though it is a deliverance for everyone to finish with one of the most unsuitable areas for sailing, it is also time to assess the damage. For some, Christmas has clearly come early, whilst the others are going to need to find a good balance between recharging their batteries and reducing their deficit.

Clearly spirits will be both low and high aboard the IMOCA 60' monohulls racing in this Transat Ecover BtoB. Those at the front of the fleet will be weary but satisfied with the call they made through the doldrums. Some of the those slightly astern may feel wronged as, seemingly on the paying trajectory, luck has gone against them leaving them floundering, whilst others will feel that their option was the wrong one but lady luck has given them a surprise boost nevertheless.

Further back still, the tail end of the fleet will be faced with an entirely new scenario in the doldrums and will be able to gain little from the positions of earlier paying options, forced to rely on their own instincts in the knowledge that they could well be worse off still on the other side.

The goal in all this is to make do with the situation you yourself are faced with, not be discouraged, make sure you are as rested as you can be, well nourished and able to give it your all whilst enjoying the fact that you are one of the lucky ones to be at sea...
