Keel locked on Safran

Around 0700 UTC Marc Guillemot contacted his shore crew to inform them of the damage that had occured an hour earlier: breakage of the keel cyclinder shaft. Marc has repaired it by locking the keel in its axis and continuing towards Brittany and La Forêt-Fouesnant.

Still motivated, the skipper of Safran  only has a single objective, his qualification for the Vendée Globe 2008.

The boat went over on its side a bit and locking the keel in its axis was pretty tough. I've put the boat back in order now and I'm continuing my course towards Port La Forêt under moderate sail area: working jib and one reef mainsail”.

The weather conditions expected over the next 24 hours will considerably reduce the monohulls ability to make headway, but the downwind conditions forecast from Sunday afternoon will be less penalizing for Safran’s progress.
