Kito de Pavant, first thoughts

It was a visibly happy Kito de Pavant who arrived in Port la Forêt earlier this morning. Satisfied with his performance, his boat and his ranking, which place him between two giants of ocean racing.

The race: “I’ve learnt a lot on this Transat. Little by little I've gained confidence and I got caught up in the game to point that I began the battle with Michel. To finish ahead of Michel Desjoyeaux is never simple, to finish ahead of him in solo configuration is nigh on impossible... How could you not be happier, I could have had been worse flanked on the podium.”

The boat: “This race is a great satisfaction. Groupe Bel really has proved her worth. The boat is fast, fairly easy to control and reliable. Despite a very short preparation, I haven't broken anything big."

The end of the race: “The last few miles were stressful. We were really crossing a minefield. There were hundreds of half submerged planks, I lost count of how many I hit..."

A closing word: “I’ve ended up between the sailor of the century (Peyron) and the sailor of the year (Michel Desjoyeaux). And me in all that? I'm the sailor of the South...."
